Montmorency Sour Cherries

The Montmorency sour cherry comes from France and is named after the Montmorency region. This type of cherry is known for its tart flavor and bright red color. Over the years, it found its way to North America, where it is mainly grown in the United States, particularly in Michigan. Today, Montmorency sour cherries are a popular ingredient in the production of cakes, jams and juices. The growing areas also extend to other parts of the world, including Canada and Eastern Europe. The cherries are harvested in summer and are very popular in both the kitchen and the health sector due to their wide range of uses.

Potential health benefits

The Montmorency sour cherry is often studied for its potential health benefits. Some scientific studies suggest that these cherries may have anti-inflammatory properties that can help relieve muscle pain and joint inflammation. It is also being discussed whether the antioxidants they contain could promote recovery after exercise.

There is also evidence that Montmorency sour cherries may improve sleep quality, possibly due to their melatonin content. However, further research is needed to fully understand and confirm these potential benefits.

Natural and highly concentrated

The Montmorency sour cherry concentrate used by ASPRIVA® is obtained through a gentle freeze-drying process, in which 50 kg of cherries are reduced to 1 kg of extract to preserve the full spectrum of plant compounds. A daily dose of 800 mg is equivalent to about 58 cherries. Montmorency sour cherries are rich in secondary plant compounds such as anthocyanins, flavonoids and polyphenols. They also naturally contain melatonin, which can support the natural sleep-wake cycle. This combination can help to improve the quality of sleep and promote a more restful night's sleep.
