OXIDATION VALUE

TOTOX: how fresh is the oil?

The TOTOX value measures the total oxidative burden of an Omega-3 oil. Formula: TOTOX = 2 × peroxide value + anisidine value. The lower the value, the lower the measured oxidation.

VITAQ® TOTOX value

6.56

A value below 10 already indicates low oxidation. A value below 7 is very low for an Omega-3 fish oil concentrate.

POLLUTANTS

How pure is VITAQ Omega3 1.100?

Especially for products intended for daily intake, actual purity plays a central role. Heavy metals such as lead, cadmium or mercury can accumulate in the body over the years. From our perspective, it is therefore not enough if a product is merely just below the legal limits. The goal should be what appears in the lab report for heavy metals: “not detectable”. This means that the measured burdens were so low that they were not measurable even with the most modern analytical methods in accredited laboratories.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions.

Choose a topic and quickly find the right answer on use, quality, ingredients, tolerability or purchase.

How much EPA, DHA and other Omega-3 fatty acids does one capsule contain?

VITAQ Omega-3 1100 contains 1,107 mg of purest Omega-3 fatty acids per capsule:

  • of which EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid): 667 mg
  • of which DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid): 333 mg
  • of which other Omega-3 fatty acids: 107 mg

This is an exceptionally high dose per capsule, developed specifically for Longevity routines. With 3 capsules per day you reach 3,000 mg of EPA+DHA. Many manufacturers describe their products as high-dose, but on closer inspection this often refers to a daily serving of 4 or more capsules. With us, high-dose means: the amount per single capsule.

When and how should I take Omega-3 capsules?

Our experts recommend taking Omega-3 capsules during or directly after a meal. Absorption is better when taken with some dietary fat - for example butter, cheese, oil or eggs. Even small amounts of fat are sufficient. This helps the body absorb Omega-3 and fat-soluble vitamins such as A, D, E and K more effectively. Please therefore do not take on an empty stomach. The time of day does not matter - morning or evening, whichever fits better into your routine.

How large are the VITAQ Omega-3 capsules?

Our VITAQ Omega-3 1100 capsules are only around 10% larger than classic Omega-3 capsules. Despite the significantly higher dose per capsule (1,100 mg Omega-3), we have managed to increase the size only marginally. Each capsule replaces 2-4 conventional Omega-3 capsules. And the best part: our capsules contain exclusively the desired Omega-3 fatty acids, with no fillers whatsoever.

Why should I store VITAQ Omega-3 in the refrigerator?

Omega-3 fatty acids are sensitive to heat, light and oxygen. Lower temperatures significantly slow this natural oxidation process. At refrigerator temperatures, the oxidation rate halves at minimum compared to storage at room temperature (20°C). Our capsules are already temperature-controlled during storage and dispatched quickly. By keeping the bottle in the refrigerator at home, you continue this protection and preserve the freshness of the high-quality EPAX fish oil to the maximum. An additional advantage: many people deliberately keep the bottle in the refrigerator because it reminds them of their daily Longevity routine every time they open the door.

How long can I use an opened bottle?

When stored at room temperature, we recommend using an opened bottle within approximately 3 months. For maximum freshness, we recommend refrigerator storage. It is important to close the bottle well after each use and protect it from heat and direct sunlight. Under these conditions, the quality of the high-quality fish oil is optimally preserved.

How do you test for heavy metals?

We had our EPAX fish oil capsules tested by two leading laboratories in Germany. The result was unequivocal: the heavy metal content of our capsules is below the detection limit - and therefore far below the limits of GOED, IFOS and the EU. No heavy metals were detectable at all. Almost all Omega-3 products claim to be "below the EU limit" for heavy metals. This means values are low - but potentially still detectable. "Below detection limit" means our laboratory instruments cannot detect any trace. This is the highest possible standard.

What does a TOTOX value below 7 mean?

TOTOX (Total Oxidation Value) measures the degree of oxidation in a fish oil. The lower the value, the fresher and higher quality the product. The EU limit is set at 26. VITAQ measures 6.56 - exactly four times below the permitted maximum. Most conventional products measure between 10 and 25. The high purity and concentration of EPA+DHA in rTG form keeps oxidation naturally low - which also eliminates fishy odour and aftertaste.

Is the fish oil sustainably sourced?

Yes, the EPAX fish oil used is well known for its sustainability. EPAX Norway AS sources its raw materials from sustainably managed fish stocks and operates according to the guidelines of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), and is also certified by "Friend of the Sea". With the goal of using 100% renewable energy and further minimising its environmental impact, EPAX is committed to sustainable and responsible operations.

Are there relevant clinical studies on this fish oil?

Yes, there are more than 100 peer-reviewed clinical studies in which EPAX raw materials were used. These studies document the safety and efficacy of EPAX Omega-3 concentrates across various health areas including cardiovascular health, joint function, dementia, immunology, pregnancy and metabolism. The high quality and purity of EPAX oils makes them particularly suitable for scientific studies.

What are EPA and DHA?

EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) are long-chain Omega-3 fatty acids. EPA and DHA contribute to the normal function of the heart. DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision. Each VITAQ capsule contains 667 mg EPA and 333 mg DHA, totalling 1,000 mg EPA+DHA per capsule and 3,000 mg EPA+DHA for the recommended daily dose of 3 capsules.

Why is a triglyceride content above 90% important?

A triglyceride content above 90% is important because triglycerides represent the natural form of Omega-3 fatty acids that the body can absorb and utilise efficiently. This is called bioavailability - the proportion of a substance that actually reaches the bloodstream after intake and can be used by the body. The rTG form (re-esterified triglycerides) achieves a bioavailability of 90-95%, significantly higher than ethyl esters (50-60%) used in most conventional products.

Which fish species does the fish oil come from?

EPAX fish oil comes mainly from wild-caught cod, anchovies and mackerel from clean waters, primarily off the coast of Peru. These fish are at the beginning of the food chain and are naturally rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, while containing comparatively little environmental pollution such as heavy metals. EPAX applies strict sustainable fishing standards, works with certified suppliers and uses state-of-the-art purification technologies. The oil is processed immediately after the catch to guarantee maximum freshness, purity and minimal oxidation.

Why is there no vegan Omega-3 from ASPRIVA?

So far we have not found a vegan option that achieves a dose like our Omega-3 1100 capsules. Although algae oil already contains EPA and DHA directly, the EPA concentration per capsule is usually too low: you would generally need to take 2-4 capsules. With plant-based oils such as linseed oil, the situation is even more challenging, as the ALA (Alpha-Linolenic acid) they contain must first be converted in the body to EPA and DHA, resulting in very small amounts of these essential fatty acids.

Zero fish burps, zero fish taste - how is that possible?

Fishy odour and aftertaste in Omega-3 capsules are caused by the oxidation of fatty acids. An extremely low TOTOX value (6.56 in VITAQ, EU limit 26) means the oil is exceptionally fresh and virtually free of oxidation. Fresh product has no odour or aftertaste. The extremely high EPA+DHA concentration in rTG form, the rigorous German production process and strict cold chain management guarantee this result for every single batch.

Are there possible side effects?

Omega-3 fatty acids are generally well tolerated. In rare cases, mild gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, diarrhoea or belching may occur when taking Omega-3 capsules. However, people who take prescription medication should always consult their doctor before taking Omega-3 capsules to avoid possible interactions or unwanted effects. This applies in particular to people with heart conditions.

Can I take VITAQ together with blood thinners?

Only after consulting a doctor. High-dose Omega-3 can have a mild anticoagulant effect. In combination with pharmacological anticoagulants (warfarin, marcumar, aspirin, direct oral anticoagulants), effects may be potentiated. If you are on anticoagulant therapy or have a bleeding disorder, always consult your treating physician before starting supplementation.

Can I take VITAQ on an ongoing basis?

Yes. VITAQ is designed as a daily Longevity routine for regular, ongoing use. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids that the body cannot synthesise and must obtain from diet. Regular long-term supplementation is well documented in scientific literature. If you have pre-existing health conditions or take medication, we recommend consulting a doctor beforehand.

How does the subscription work?

With the ASPRIVA subscription, you receive VITAQ automatically at your chosen delivery interval, delivered directly to your home. You save compared to single purchases and can pause, adjust or cancel your subscription at any time in your customer account. No minimum term, no hidden conditions.

What justifies €69 compared to cheaper alternatives?

Which alternative do you have in mind exactly? Please write to us and name a product with 1,000 mg EPA+DHA per capsule in rTG form, EPAX fish oil documented in over 100 clinical studies, TOTOX 6.56, heavy metals below detection limit, MSC and "Friend of the Sea" certification, and 83 publicly published analytical parameters per batch. We are curious. € 0.65 per 1,000 mg of EPA/DHA.

Can I combine VITAQ with other ASPRIVA products?

Yes. VITAQ pairs perfectly with all ASPRIVA products: CORE, SLEEP, SMILE and GLOW. The formulations were developed with mutual compatibility in mind. If you take medication regularly and wish to combine multiple products, we recommend consulting a doctor beforehand.
